Launch of The Festival On The Close 2022 and the reopening of The Macready Theatre
With Performances from Motionhouse and John Agard

Saturday 27 November
1.15pm
Free and open to all

Interested in hearing about the inspiring cultural activity heading to Rugby? Join us for a special (free!) event to mark the launch of the Festival On The Close 2022 and the reopening of the Macready Theatre.

The afternoon event will feature a jaw-dropping performance from international dance-circus company Motionhouse, an address from Queen’s Gold Medallist poet and festival patron John Agard, and exciting announcements from the artistic team behind the Festival and the theatre.

Experience astounding choreography in Motionhouse’s short duet Lost, which explores what it means to be physically and emotionally lost. You can expect a characteristic blend of dramatic lifts, athletic precision and emotionally-charged performance. Motionhouse will be visiting with more workshops and performance opportunities in 2022.

John Agard made history this month by becoming the first ever poet to be awarded the Book Trust’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He will be treating you to a taster of the playful performance style that makes him such a beloved figure, as well as sharing his support for the Festival On The Close. His characterful style will give a flavour of what you can expect later on at An Evening With John Agard, where he will be premiering brand new work alongside older classics. Tickets for the evening performance are available here >>

There will also be the chance to hear first-hand from the artistic team behind the activity, who will be talking about the many creative opportunities, events, workshops and activity that is lined up for the new year. Find out more about how you can get involved and make the most of the creative opportunities on your doorstep.
