Cable Street

Rugby School has been selected to participate in the National Theatre Connections programme. Students aged 13 to 14 will perform in Cable Street, a new play written by Lisa Goldman. The play will be performed in the Macready Theatre in Rugby before moving to another professional theatre in Doncaster.

The play tells the story of a romance between two young girls taking place over the 1936 Battle of Cable Street, where working class Jews and communists successfully faced down a fascist march by Oswald Mosley and the Black Shirts in London’s East End.

Special Introduction

There will be a special introduction from Dr Mark Fowle each evening, providing important historical context about the battle of Cable Street.

Event Timings

Venue doors will open at 6.45pm.

The event will start promptly at 7.15pm.
