Macready Theatre Invites Rugby Residents to Discover a Unique Pop-Up Season Across Rugby School

Professional theatre comes to some of Rugby’s most beautiful historic spaces this autumn.

While the Macready Theatre undergoes an exciting programme of refurbishment, the curtain is far from coming down. Instead, audiences are being invited to experience an unforgettable Pop-Up Season that will bring world-class entertainment to a collection of stunning venues across the historic Rugby School campus from August to December 2026.

From acclaimed theatre and live music to comedy, family favourites and special events, the Pop-Up Season celebrates everything audiences love about Macready Theatre while opening the doors to some of Rugby’s most iconic buildings.

Visitors can enjoy an eclectic programme including internationally acclaimed solo drama Animal Farm, the ever-popular Manford’s Comedy Club, Pizza & Jazz evenings, concerts from Onyx Brass and Swing From Paris, family favourite Wind in the Willows, creative Sip & Paint experiences and an evening with bestselling historian Philippa Langley, alongside a range of student showcases and performances.

The temporary move offers a rare opportunity for local audiences to experience live entertainment in unique settings that many have never had the chance to explore.

Amie Johnson, Theatre Manager at Macready Theatre, said:

“Whilst our theatre undergoes an exciting transformation, we’re thrilled that the show can truly go on. This Pop-Up Season is a wonderful opportunity to welcome both our loyal audiences and those visiting us for the very first time into some of the most beautiful and historic buildings that make up Rugby School.

We’re incredibly grateful to Rugby School for their generosity in opening these remarkable spaces to our community. It’s a fantastic chance for Rugby residents to experience professional live entertainment in unique surroundings while continuing to support their local theatre. We can’t wait to welcome everyone over the coming months.”

Although the venue may be changing, Macready Theatre’s commitment remains the same; to bring professional entertainment to the heart of Rugby.

Whether audiences are looking for a thought-provoking play, an evening of laughter, exceptional live music or a memorable family outing, the Pop-Up Season offers something for everyone.

The season also reflects the theatre’s commitment to making arts and culture accessible within the local community, ensuring audiences can continue enjoying high-quality performances while the theatre prepares to reopen in 2027 with enhanced facilities.
