Q&A with Charlie Richards from Hold On To Your Butts

A huge welcome from Rugby’s Macready Theatre! I know you’re travelling a long way for this tour, can you tell us a bit about where the company is from and how it all began?

Recent Cutbacks are an incredible theatre company based in NY. The shows they produce are the perfect blend of comedy, homage and nostalgia. Hold Onto Your Butts is no different and we can’t wait for you to see our low budget shot for shot remake of this well loved classic.

We are so delighted to be part of your 2025 UK tour. What made you decide to embark on this adventure?

The second I saw the script for Butts I was hooked. It has always been one of my favourite films and my younger self could not believe that I would get the chance to play a T Rex. The show has a perfect balance of thoughtful storytelling and silliness. It is truly one of the most enjoyable projects I have been a part of.

Some audiences who may have seen the show during its sell-out run at Edinburgh Fringe will be delighted to see you again. What can they expect to be different this time around?

The show was created 10 years ago yet the script has been updated and edited many many times over the years. The style of story telling allows the actors flexibility to play with each other and the audience. For us each show is completely unique which is why it’s one of the most enjoyable projects I’ve been a part of.

Who was Hold On To Your Butts created for?

The show works for people who have seen the Spielberg masterpiece once or a thousand times as well as those who haven’t got round to watching it yet. It’s a show that entertains on so many levels. You’ll have to see it to understand what I mean.

Lastly, can you describe your show in three words?

Silly, Silly, Fun
